John D. MorrisAug. 03, 1927 - Oct. 24, 2016SOUTH BEND - John D. Morris, 89, of South Bend, IN passed away at 11:06 a.m. Monday, October 24, 2016 at the Milton Home. He was born on August 3, 1927 in Boonville, IN to the late William E. and Emma (Ehrhardt) Morris. On April 22, 1949 in Boonville, IN, he married the former Dixie Lee Hall who preceded him in death on June 7, 1997. Mr. Morris is survived by his daughter, Carla (Steve) Gage of Seneca, SC; two sons, Kevin (Judy) Morris of South Bend, IN and J. David (Fonda) Morris of South Bend, IN; three grandchildren, Amberlee (Adam) Futa, Kevin C. Morris and Megan Morris and one great grandchild, Parker Morris. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Dixie and brother, Richard Morris. Mr. Morris lived in Boonville for forty-three years, Huntington for sixteen years and in South Bend, IN since 1986. He served his country honorably in the United States Navy during World War II and Korea. He worked as a lineman and in management for Indiana Bell, (AT & T) retiring in 1988 after thirty-seven years of service. Mr. Morris was member and Past Commander of the American Legion #200 in Boonville, IN, member and Past Master of Stranger's Rest Lodge #240, F.& AM. Boonville, IN and Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite Valley of South Bend. He was also a member of Telephone Pioneers.He loved animals, most of all his dogs and cat “Daisy”, enjoyed cooking, BBQ, and Bingo. He liked to make wine and beer. A Memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, October 29, 2016 at Palmer Funeral Home-Guisinger Chapel, 3718 S. Michigan St. South Bend, IN. Friends may visit with the family one hour prior to the services. A private burial will be held at a later date at Maple Grove Cemetery, Boonville, IN. Contributions in memory of John D.
