This obituary is administered by:
Dr. John Clyde Worley JrDecember 20, 1925 - March 24, 2016John Clyde Worley, Jr. (Doc), our beloved husband, father, grandfather, and brother, passed away Thursday, March 24, 2016, at the age of 90, surrounded by many members of his loving family.Doc was born on December 20, 1925, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Clyde and Geneva Worley. He was raised in Logan and graduated from Logan High School in 1943, attended Utah State University for a short time, and then entered the United States Navy where he served in WWII. Upon completion of his naval service, he returned to Utah State, where he excelled in both academics and athletics as a member of the Aggie Football and track teams. The highlight of his athletic career was scoring the game-winning touchdown to beat the University of Utah for a conference championship on Thanksgiving Day, 1946. He married his high school sweetheart, Jaqueline Barber, on June 6, 1947 in Logan, Utah. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple. During their companionship of over 63 years, John and Jackie welcomed five children into their family: Sande (Craig) Clark of Fish Haven, Idaho; Patti (Randy) Johnson of Providence, Utah; Kim (Craig) Smith of Eureka, Missouri; Mary Lyn (Michael) Emswiler of Renton, Washington; and John (Wendy) Worley of Providence, Utah.Doc attended Northwestern University in Chicago, Illinois, completing his medical degree in 1952, and returned to Utah to complete his intern and residency training in Ogden and Salt Lake City. In 1958, the family moved home to Logan and Doc began his medical practice in General Surgery, becoming a well-respected pillar of the medical community. As a partner at the Budge Clinic, he was part of the most successful medical group practice in Cache Valley. He loved practicing medicine alongside his wonderful colleagues and partners at the Budge Clinic. He was proud to be a physician and loved the practice of medicine. His training also provided the opportunity to work at Utah State University, where he served as the Aggie Team Physician for the majority of his 40-year career. In that role, he became a constant and familiar site on the sidelines of Aggie football and basketball games, as well most sporting events at Logan High School. He worked with and cared for many students athletes, coaches and staff members during his career, many of whom became lifelong friends and companions. It was within his family, however, where he found true happiness. He was a dedicated and involved husband and father, constantly balancing his home and family life, but never letting family become less than his top priority. This lifelong pursuit of his three greatest passions … medicine, athletics, and family … defined Doc Worley and created the man loved by so many. He was a dedicated and loving physician, a true Aggie son, and a loyal and devoted husband and father.Doc was preceded in death by his wife Jackie, his parents, and his sister Ann. He is survived by his brother Sam, his children, and his 15 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild, who all loved their "Papa Doc."Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 30, 2016, at 11:00 am at the River Heights Stake Center, 800 South 600 East, River Heights Utah.
