Joe Marquez Sifuentes, 88, a resident of Casa Grande, Arizona peacefully went to his eternal rest surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, April 25, 2017 in Montclair, California. Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 4th from 9:30 – 10:30 AM at Terrazas Funeral Chapel followed by a rosary service at 10:30 AM that will be recited by Deacon David Castanon. The funeral mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church on Thursday, May 4th at 12:00 PM officiated by Fr. Abraham Solis. Interment will immediately follow with full military honors at Fort Bayard National Cemetery. Pallbearers are Gabriel Sifuentes, Lawrence Sifuentes, Joslyn Sifuentes, Nickolas Sifuentes, Ashley Sifuentes, Hector Ramirez, Michael Cisneros and Ricardo Rodriguez. Joe was born on August 25, 1928 in Tyrone, New Mexico to Jose Sifuentes and Cecilia Marquez. His mother died early in life when Joe was ten years old. Joe began at a young age working at the copper mine in Tyrone and was later drafted into the Army. He proudly served and is a veteran of the Korean War. During a military leave he married Margaret Romero on August 26, 1951 and they lived for many years in Bayard, New Mexico. They had three children Larry, Randy and Cecilia Denise. Joe was an active member of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church, where he helped with many fundraisers and annual barbeques. During the 1960's, Joe was elected as a City Councilman for Bayard and was also a volunteer at the fire department. He loved the outdoors and was an avid fisherman and hunter.Joe was employed by Kennecott Copper Mines for 40 years and retired in December 1986, where he started as a mail clerk and retired as a supervisor. In 1993, Joe and Margaret moved to Casa Grande, Arizona to be closer to their grandchildren. In Casa Grande, Joe continued to show his love for his community and became a volunteer at his new church St. Anthony of Padua. There, he also joined the local chapter of Knights of Columbus and became a Fourth-Degree Knight. Joe loved working for the church and completed many maintenance projects for them including gardening and cleaning the church, to name a few. He later became a custodian for the St. Anthony of Padua Catholic School. He is survived by his two sons Larry R. Sifuentes and his wife Angela of Casa Grande, AZ, Randall R. Sifuentes and his wife Yvette of Upland, CA and his daughter Cecilia Denise Sifuentes of Casa Grande, AZ; five grandchildren Gabriel Sifuentes, Joslyn Sifuentes, Lawrence Sifuentes, Nickolas Sifuentes, and Ashley Sifuentes, two step brothers Manuel Sifuentes, Richard Sifuentes, and one step sister Rosie Sifuentes all from Silver City, New Mexico Joe was preceded in death by his parents Jose and Cecilia Sifuentes, his wife of 60 years Margaret Sifuentes and his step brother Ysidro Sifuentes.Arrangements are with Terrazas Funeral Chapel "Trusted care for the ones you love" ~ 575-537-0777.
