On May 18, 2024, the world lost a true hero, Joan Liberty, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She was born on October 21, 1953, in Chicago, Illinois, to her parents John Liberty and Jessie Hopkins who proceed her in death.
Joan dedicated her life to those she loved. In 1984, she married her soulmate Runny Ervin, and together they raised four wonderful children: Delicia, Jovanna, Rodestia, and Jeannia. The love they shared was truly inspiring, and it showed in the way they raised their family.
After graduating from Harrison High School in 1971, Joan pursued a career in nursing. She worked at Suave Nursing Home as an LPN, where she touched the lives of countless patients with her kindness and compassion. She retired in 2000, leaving behind a legacy of exceptional care and dedication.
Joan had a passion for dressing fly and always making sure her family was taken care of. She was a pillar of strength and wisdom, guiding her loved ones through the highs and lows of life with grace and courage. To know Joan was to love her she didn’t take no mess.
Tragically, Joan's journey was cut short by cancer, but her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. She leaves behind six grandchildren Racara, Daphne, Cierra, Abby, Brittany and Jashawna. Five great grandchildren Jazara, Anyla, Amiri, Amora, and K’lani who will always carry her love and spirit with them.
Joan Liberty was more than just a name; she was a beacon of light in a world that can often be dark. Her legacy of love and compassion will never be forgotten, and her presence will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
