Jim Quintana, 46, a longtime resident of Las Vegas, passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 13, 2015, at UNM Hospital in Albuquerque.He was born on July 18, 1969 to Leopoldo Quintana and Ruby Jane Aranda in Las Vegas.He was a teacher at West Las Vegas Schools for 15 years. He was a member of Our Lady of Sorrows Church in Las Vegas.Jim Quintana lived a big life, full of love, compassion, dedication and hard work. He loved to be home at the ranch, a place where his door was always open to family, friends, and strangers alike. He enjoyed tending to his animals, going for wood, hauling hay, fishing, hunting and horseback riding. A lifelong Catholic, Jim took great pride in his faith, praying the rosary every day and could often be heard giving thanks to God for his many blessings. His deep faith was clearly evident in his character and played a great role in who he was as a person. He was always willing to help anyone in need in whatever way he could. He lived everyday with the belief and intention of giving back and paying his blessings forward to those less fortunate than himself. He loved watching his Pittsburgh Steelers play, spending time with his loved ones, and cooking. He was known by many as the owner of Fat Brothers, a longstanding local fiesta favorite and a successful business for the past 16 years. A teacher by profession, Jim always strove to expand his own knowledge and education for the betterment of his students. Some of his many accomplishments throughout the years include several academic honor roll recognitions, making of the Dean's List, National Honor Society and being a fundamental member of Club de B.E.S.O - all at Highlands University.In addition to a major in Spanish and a minor in bilingual education, Jim was currently in pursuit of various licensures at the time of his passing. He was truly a loved and respected teacher who earned the reputation for his never failing dedication to his students. He will be missed immensely and loved forever by everyone who knew him.He was preceded in death by his parents: Leopoldo and Ruby Jane Quintana and brother: Tony Aranda.He is survived by his wife: Maria Jaramillo of the family home; daughter: Desiree Griego of Las Vegas; grandchildren: Hailey and Alijah Garcia; brothers: Mike Aranda, Martin Quintana, Robert Alarcon and Isaiah Velasquez, all of Las Vegas; mother and father-in-law: Ernest and Cathy Jaramillo of Las Vegas; brother-in-law: Joe Jaramillo and wife, Michelle, of Las Vegas; Godchildren: Adam Sanchez, Joseph Contreras, Amanda Garcia, Victor Martinez, Troy Gallegos, Mitchell Gallegos and Estrella Romero; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.Rosary service will be held at 7 p.m. on Monday at Our Lady of Sorrows Church in Las Vegas.
