Jerold Joseph "Jerry" Cranny91, of Indianapolis, departed this life Wednesday, September 7, 2016.  Jerry was born on Christmas Eve in 1924 to the late Ty and Esther (Maher) Cranny in Preston, IA. His family moved to Indianapolis in 1936 where Jerry attended Cathedral Elementary and then graduated from Cathedral High School in 1943. As a young man, he worked at his family's restaurant 'Cranny's' in downtown Indianapolis.Jerry then entered into the United States Army Air Corps and was trained to fly North American B-25 Mitchell bombers. Upon the end of World War II, he entered Butler University where he earned his degree in business and played basketball for the Bulldogs and coach Tony Hinkle.Jerry married Nancy McClamroch on August 7, 1948 at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church. He was a dedicated charter member of St. Pius X Catholic Church. He was a member of St. Pius X Council of the Knights of Columbus, The Robert E. Kennington American Legion Post #34 and the Riviera Club. Jerry worked for over 38 years for Herff Jones Company, retiring in 1987. Throughout his life, he enjoyed spending summers in Michigan and winters in Fort Myers, FL. Jerry loved all types of sports, but his favorites were golf, tennis and volleyball. Jerry was an avid golfer and achieved three holes in one, the last one at age 75!Jerry was a man dedicated to faith, family and friends. He is survived by his beloved wife of 68 years, Nancy Cranny; his devoted children, Marcia (George) FitzGerald, Kevin (Susan) Cranny, Jody (Rick) Zeph, Patty (Mark) Hendrickson, Carolyn (Bob) Siderys and Elizabeth (John) Harlan; son-in-law, Chris Hehmeyer; brother, Richard Cranny; 18 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and a host of lifelong friends. Jerry was preceded in death by his beloved daughter Janis Hehmeyer and sister Kathleen Rolles.Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until time of prayers at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, September 16th, 2016 at Feeney-Hornak Keystone Mortuary followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 12:00 p.m. at St. Pius X Catholic Church.
