Jean Margaret Hart Obituary

Aug 05, 1922 - Jan 11, 2017

This obituary is administered by:
Jean Margaret Hart August 5, 1922 - January 11, 2017 Mrs. Jean Margaret Hart (née Stannard) passed away peacefully surrounded by family in New Westminster on January 11th 2017. Jean was a beautiful, strong, feisty soul, a mother, grandmother, great grandmother and dear friend to many. She lived a vibrant, joyful life for 94 years, the heart of our family and will be forever missed but not forgotten. She was predeceased by her husband Leslie and daughter Nadine and we find comfort in knowing she is with them again. Jean is survived by her son Ian (Pearl) of Kelowna, grandson James (Jennifer) of Coquitlam, great grandchildren Emma and Alex and many of her numerous other extended family and friends.Jean was born on August 5th 1922 in Etonia, Saskatchewan to Samuel and Effie Stannard. Moving west to Vancouver in the late 1930's Jean graduated from the VGH Nursing program in 1947. While working at VGH she met a handsome pharmacist, Les, who she would later marry in 1950. The two would move around BC with the pharmacy business finally settling in Coquitlam in 1961 making many lasting friendships along the way. Jean focused on raising their 2 children, Nadine and Ian. After her kids were grown she realized her second career passion, real estate which she excelled at for many years and again making more lasting relationships (some 45 years strong!). After losing Nadine in 1987, she again focused on mothering as she lovingly took James and raised him as her own. She will be remembered as a kind, committed, and loving parent who was always fired up about a ball game or swim meet. She was the loudest voice in the crowd cheering on her kids at Crescent Beach in the summers, in her later years her grandson at numerous swim meets and recently her great grandchildren playing soccer, running cross country or a game of volley ball. Recently, she adored having her great-grandchildren over every morning before school for a heathy breakfast and a cooking show always reminding them to try their best and pursue their goals. Jean was an avid lover of things social, music and dance and over the years was often seen tearing up the dance floor with her husband Les by her side and in her later years her dear friend Emil Erikson. She never wanted to miss an event or party and always had a smile on her face. Throughout the decades she enjoyed many sports including skating, curling, lawn bowling and especial Bridge. She was an active and dedicated member of the Dogwood Senior Centre and often played Bridge with many groups, even driving some of her younger partners up until the age of 93 to ensure they didn't miss a game. She considered these lasting friendships her extended family. She was a witty, passionate, opinionated individual who loved to crack jokes any time if the day and could always easily be spotted in the vibrant pink, purple and red outfits she wore. A "Spring Fling" Celebration of Life is scheduled for March 11th 2017 at 11:30 am at the Old Mill Boathouse, Port Moody. In honor of Jean's love of bright vibrant colours the family would like to invite all who wish attend the celebration of life to wear the brightest and most beautifully coloured spring outfits to remember Jean in the way she was, always the life of any party.Condolences and tributes may be sent to the family by visiting www.burquitlamfuneralhome.ca
