She inspired many women to be active participants - not merely observers - to take on many outdoor challenges. Jan was an avid hiker, biker, tennis player, and lover of the outdoors and she set the bar high by doing amazing feats such as walking 60 miles when she turned 60 and conquering other physical challenges when she turned 70 and even 80!Dave and Jan raised four children who are all married with children of their own: Son Bruce and wife Geri Murphy of Las Cruces and children Joanie, Jessi and son-in-law Sean; daughter Virginia Allen and husband Paul of Delta, Colo. and children Casey and his very significant other Kate, Marie and son-in-law Bryan; son Paul and wife Cheryll of Las Cruces and children Irene and Patrick; and son Eric and wife Juanita of Pueblo, Colo. and children Samuel and his new bride Allison, Benjamin, and Sarah. She leaves one nephew, David Hazard of California. She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister who died in childbirth, a brother Allyn Hazard and her husband.Donations may be made to the local YMCA. The family plans to honor her by walking around the Los Alamos High School track for 86 minutes at 1:00 p.m. on Oct. 6, 2012. All Bar Nothings, Cyclones and anyone who knew Jan or would like to begin a life of challenge are invited to join the family. Refreshments will be served after the walk.
