Jane Rose Wilkerson1961-2017Jane Rose Wilkerson died on April 27, 2017 at Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola, FL. She was 56 years old. Jane was born on March 1, 1961 in Las Vegas, NV the daughter of Marjory Brewer Wilkerson and William Henry Wilkerson. Jane was the youngest in a family of four children. She was preceded in death by her mother, father and sister, Mary Elizabeth Wilkerson. Jane is survived by her brother, James Brewer Wilkerson of Birmingham, AL, her sister Ann Kathleen Harber of Pensacola, FL, her nephew Alec William Wilkerson of Adelaide, Australia and her niece Marjory Erin Harber of Pensacola, FL.In high school, Jane competed in swimming and was a member of her high school color guard. She was very outgoing and enjoyed all opportunities to be involved. Jane's first job was with The Chart House in Annapolis, MD where she started as a prep cook and rose to the position of Assistant Restaurant Manager. She continued to work in the hospitality industry until her 30's.Jane suffered from mental illness most of her adulthood. For many years now, she lived independently with support from a program called Florida Assertive Community Treatment (FACT). Without the members of the FACT Team and Jane's good friends, her quality of life would have suffered a great deal. In 2009, Jane became a Certified Peer Recovery Specialist and among other things she worked with the police force to better understand how to communicate with those with mental illness. Over the years, Jane did other volunteer work also.The family wishes to thank those who supported Jane's recovery and her return to our community. We especially want to thank the FACT team and Jane's friends for the care and friendship given to Jane throughout the years. We wish to thank the Lakeview Center for helping our family better understand and cope with Jane's day-to-day life experiences.When we think of Jane, we know that our sister and our aunt really loved the people around her. Although, Jane's "path into the light seemed dark" at times, she lived her life with love and with grace. She practiced kindness every day.
