This obituary is administered by:
Annuschat, James "Jim" V. passed away at William Newton Hospital on November 6, 2016 in Winfield, KS, at the age of 70. Jim is survived by his wife, Mary of Winfield; his son, Dominic and wife, Bethany of Wichita; and daughter-in-law, Katherine Annuschat of Corona, CA; sister, Katherine Moore of Kingfisher, OK. He is preceded in death by his parents and son, Damien Annuschat. Jim was born on March 6, 1946 in Oklahoma City, OK, to parents Frank and Anna Annuschat. Jim graduated high school from Okarche High School in Okarche, OK in 1964. Upon graduation, Jim began his college career at Oklahoma University. Before finishing his degree, Jim changed paths and moved to California where he was a background singer for Capitol Records with Glen Campbell and other various artists. Later, he moved to Alaska where he worked on the North Slope as a head cook for a crew of 60 men on an offshore rig. In 1975, Jim moved to Kansas to attend Kansas Newman University where he received his Bachelor's degree in Education. After graduation, Jim met Mary Bergkamp, and the two were married on July 3, 1980. The couple then moved to Emporia in 1987 where Jim studied and received his Masters of Arts in Teaching with a concentration in social science and Building-Level certification from Emporia State University. Jim was the first recipient to receive the Masters of Arts in Teaching from the Kansas Regents Colleges. Jim and Mary settled in Winfield, KS in 1991 with their two sons, Damien and Dominic. Jim taught social studies from 1991 for USD 465 until his retirement in 2009. Despite ending his career as a professional singer, Jim continued his love for music and singing throughout his life, harboring a special love for opera music especially. After his retirement from teaching, he discovered a new artistic pursuit, painting, and enjoyed gifting his paintings to friends and family (a couple of his paintings are on display in Winfield, at Biederman's Bistro and at Jade Nails). When given the opportunity, Jim also enjoyed camping and especially travelling. Jim and Mary enjoyed frequent visits to California in his final years, and even made it back to Alaska in 2014. Visitation will be from 1-5 P.M. Wednesday, November 9, at the Shelley Family Funeral Home in Winfield. A rosary for Jim will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday, November 9, at Holy Name Catholic Church. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, November 10, at Holy Name Catholic Church. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery. Father Kenneth Schuckman will officiate the ceremony.
