TOJO, M.D.James Tojo, M.D., age 90, passed away in his Cincinnati, Ohio home on September 9, 2017, surrounded by his wife and family. Loving husband of Peggy (Browning) for 61 years; Devoted Dad of Michael (Merea), Regina, Sheila (Doug), David (Cathe), Mary, Rose, Theresa (Will), Paula (Rocky) and Lauri. Cherished Grandpa to 20 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren; a loving Uncle and Brother-in-law. Jim Tojo was born on January 1, 1927 in Los Angeles, CA, the son of Japanese immigrants. During WWII, at age15 he and his family were imprisoned in an internment camp. Yet, Jim enlisted and proudly served in the US Army becoming a First Lieutenant and Military Intelligence Service Officer. In 2011 he was honored with the Congressional Gold Medal for Patriotism. Jim earned his medical degree from University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. While an intern at St. Mary's Hospital, he met an operating room nurse named Peggy Browning. They married and together had nine children. Last month they celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary. Jim was an accomplished physician and surgeon in private practice, then served 25 years as Fire Department Surgeon and Medical Director for the City of Cincinnati. After retirement Jim volunteered his time delivering Meals on Wheels, working in a soup kitchen, and providing hospice care to the sick. He loved going to church, gardening, doing magic tricks for his grandkids and playing the piano. During his life, Jim overcame hardship and adversity with dignity and grace and shared his life experiences to teach others. He was a kind and humble man, always full of laugher and smiles. He was beloved by his family and friends. Jim is preceded in death by his parents, one brother and four sisters. Visitation will be held Friday September 15, 2017 at Meyer and Geiser Funeral Home, 4989 Glenway Ave, 45238 from 4:30 to 7:30 PM. A funeral mass will be held on Saturday 10 AM at St. Mary Church in Hyde Park, 2853 Erie Ave, Cin, OH 45208.
