Poems and Letters From Family
My father, James Thomas Wilson Jr., always made sure I knew he loved me. When we spoke, he was open about his regrets and the ways he wished he’d been a better dad, and I always appreciated that honesty. It meant a lot to hear him admit his mistakes and show how much he cared, even when life wasn’t easy. Because my faith in God, forgiving him was easy. I am grateful to know that before he left this world, I loved and forgave him.
When we saw each other, there was always a lot of love. My Mom and others would often tell me how much I look like him, and hearing that always made me feel connected to him in a quiet, unspoken way. The time we spent together, the conversations we had, and the way he shared his heart with me are moments I’ll always carry. They’re what made our connection real.
I don’t think of my dad as gone now but as living on through my lens. His presence is part of me in ways that go beyond words, in how I move through the world and in the lessons I carry forward. I know he’s proud of me in everything I do.
-Exodus 20:12 "Honor your father and your mother, so that you may live long in the land the Lord your God is giving you.” - James Thomas Wilson III
"Gone too soon, but forever in our hearts,
A sweet soul lost, a love that will never depart.
You brought light to our world, and though it's dimmed,
Your memory shines bright, a love we'll cherish within."
Rest easy my sweet son.
Love always Mama.
Dear Tommy,
Tommy my big bro where should i begin. My big bother had a heart of gold. One of the nicest coolest guys you would ever know. That connection and bond we gained when I came to the country was profound and irreplaceable. I was so lost and didn’t wanna be out there but I had an opportunity to build this bond with my big brother that I would never forget. Man we had so many good times. You taught me so many things that I’ll never forget bro. The convos we had I’ll always cherish. I miss you immensely, brother. While God has called you home, I will carry your memory and mourn your absence until we meet again. Rest easy, big brother. - Ashley Thomas
