James L. Staton, 75James L. Staton, 75, a lifelong resident of Kentland, died at 9:00 pm, Sunday, December 15, 2013 at Jasper County Hospital of Rensselaer. He was born on July 19, 1938 in Lafayette to the late Lloyd and Irene (James) Staton. He graduated from A.J. Kent High School in 1956. He went on to serve as a SP4 in the United States Army from 1957-1959 with the 6th Infantry Division, where he was stationed in Berlin, Germany. His marriage of 54 years was to Rebecca Franklin on October 24, 1959 in Kentland. She survives. He was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church and had served on the Newton County Council for 12 years. He was a longtime farmer and after retiring, he drove a school bus for the South Newton School Corporation for several years. Jim loved working, helping the community, visiting with his longtime friends and friends at the coffee shop, but most of all, he enjoyed time spent with his family. Surviving with his wife are his son; Michael J. Staton (wife: Liz) of Carmel, and their children, Lara and Danny Staton; and his brother, John Staton of Fort Wayne.
