James J. SchererElizaville - James J. Scherer, a resident of Elizaville, entered into rest on Friday, February 24, 2017 at home. He was 79 years old.Son of the late John and Claire Goetchius Scherer, he was born on May 7, 1937 in Montrose, New York. He married the former Mary Bardong. Mrs. Scherer survives at home. James proudly served his country in the United States Navy from 1955 to 1963. James worked as a Respiratory Therapist in Westchester County for many years before beginning work at the Bank of New York from where he retired. He loved to play horseshoes and dartball and was a member of the Mount Hope Dartball League.In addition to his wife, James is survived by his step-daughters, Karen Schetter and husband, Mike, Barbara Endress and husband, Bill; his grandchildren, Nicole Nicholson and husband, Eric, Lynn Schetter, Cory Endress, Tylor Welch, Colin Welch and Daniel Welch; his seven great grandchildren; his sister, Barbara Scherer-Schmidt and husband, James; his numerous nieces and nephews.He was predeceased by his step-son, Robert Welch; his grandson, Justin DeCarlo; his brothers, Louis, John, III, his twin brother, Peter, Patrick and Thomas. Family will receive their friends on Monday, February 27, 2017 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Straub, Catalano & Halvey Funeral Home, 55 E. Main Street, Wappingers Falls, NY 12590. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, February 28, 2017 at 10 a.m. at the funeral home.
