Cerio, 92, of 133 Bruno Road, Canastota, died on Thursday, July 27, 2017, at his son's home in Verona, following a brief illness.He was born on March 7, 1925, in Geneva, a son of the late James and Edith (Fredericks) Cerio.Jim has lived in Canastota all of his life, attending the Canastota schools.He was a WW II veteran, serving overseas with the US Army in the 347th Harbor Craft Company.Jim worked at Diemolding Corporation in Canastota for 31 years, retiring in 1990 as the Print Shop supervisor.He was a member of St. Agatha's Church in Canastota.Jim was a member of the Canastota Volunteer Fire Department, Patten Hook & Ladder Company for 21 years, and the Canastota Conservation Club. He was a founding member of the Greater Lenox Ambulance Service in Canastota.He enjoyed fishing, crossword puzzles, wood working, painting, drawing, art creations, and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.Jim married Mildred I. Hotaling on June 21, 1952, in Fayetteville. Millie died on July 3, 2011.Surviving are: one son and daughter-in-law, James L. and Carol Cerio of Verona; one daughter, Patricia A. Cerio and Gene Adamczyk of Whitesboro; six grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; five great great-grandchildren; a nephew, Edward Wright of Watauga, Texas; three nieces, Gloria Devencenzo of Canastota, Dorraine Cronk of Manlius, Tina Cronk of Ithaca, as well as many other nieces, nephews, and cousins. Jim was predeceased by a son, Thomas C. Cerio on May 22, 2015; a nephew, Roger Wright; four brothers; and six sisters.At Jim's request, private funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family. The Rev. Stephen P. Wirkes, pastor of St. Agatha's Church, Canastota, will officiate. Burial will be in St. Agatha's Cemetery, Canastota. At Jim's request there will be no calling hours. Arrangements are under the supervision of the J. Homer Ball Funeral Home, Inc., 201 James St., Canastota. In his memory, contributions may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc., 4277 Middle Settlement Road, Hew Hartford, N.Y. 13413.J.
