LAUREL HILL — James Everette Norton, 82, passed away on Dec. 13, 2013 at his home.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday at Woodville Pentecostal Holiness with burial following in Hillside Memorial Park. The Rev. Jerry Goins will officiate the service.

James was born on Sept. 3, 1931 in Scotland County, a son of the late Wiley and Daisie Butler Norton. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force and the United States Army serving during the Korean War. After leaving the armed forces he received his associates degree in chemistry and worked with the DuPont Company. He loved traveling and spending time at the beach.

James was also preceded in death by his siblings Woodrow Norton, Roy Norton, Wiley "Doug" Norton and Daisy Snuggs.

James is survived by his wife Virginia Phillips of the home, stepchildren Sam Phillips (Mary Ann), Belinda Scott (Tony), Roxana Burr (Glenn), Gwen Moore (Randy), Sherry Craft and Betty Scott (Timmy Haywood), 17 grandchildren and a host of great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. on Sunday at Richard Boles Funeral Service in Laurinburg.
