James Eli Isom, age 71, of Woodlawn, Virginia, passed away Thursday, Oct. 13, 2016 in the VA Medical Center in Salem, Virginia. James was born on Jan. 23, 1945, in Carroll County, Virginia, to Walter Homer and Monrova Leath Isom. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother, Clifton Isom. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force. He is survived by his wife, Peggy P. Isom of Woodlawn; daughter, Cynthia Isom Roberts of Woodlawn; granddaughter, Brooke Louann Cole of Woodlawn; sisters and brothers-in-law, Donna and Clayton Byrd of Galax, Virginia, and Frances and Larry Jones of Florence, South Carolina; several nieces and nephews. The funeral service was at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Vaughan-Guynn Chapel, with Pastor Darry Campbell and the Rev. Terri Gregory officiating. Burial was in Bishops Chapel Cemetery.
