Dec 19, 1941 - Jan 15, 2016

This obituary is administered by:
James David Young, 74, of Nacogdoches, Texas, passed away on Tuesday, November 15, 2016, in Nacogdoches. He was born on December 19, 1941, in McKinney, Texas, to Thomas Troy and Alice Maurine Isbell Young. A Memorial Visitation will be held on Saturday, November 19, 2016, from 4 PM-6 PM. James graduated from West Jefferson High School in Harvey, Louisiana in 1960, where he met Jacquelyn Ann Laborie, his high school sweetheart. They were married in 1961 in Tyler, Texas, where James began his career in hair then moved to Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, to open his own salon. They left Oklahoma City when James was drafted into the US Army to serve as a medic in Korea. While in Korea, James volunteered at an orphanage, having Jackie send items to give to the children. Following his military service, they lived in New Orleans where he worked as a hairdresser for Coiffures Americana. Several years later, they moved to Nacogdoches to begin their life and family "with roots." James was nationally and internationally recognized in the hair fashion profession as an accomplished teacher and demonstrator. He lectured throughout the United States and Europe. James was a well-respected member of Texas Lone Star Styles Committee, Hair America, and Haute Coiffure Francaise in Paris, France. James was an active member of the Nacogdoches Breakfast Lions Club and held many offices. He was particularly passionate about the Lions Club Camp for Diabetic Children and Lions Club Eye Bank of Texas. James was an avid reader, loved sharing knowledge and Texas history. He enjoyed fishing, NASCAR, hunting with friends of the 1600 Hunt Club, spending time with friends, and he especially loved his family and very proud of them. James is preceded in death by his parents, Alice Maurine and Thomas Troy Young of Laurel, Mississippi; his in-laws, Bertha Elise and Charles Martin Laborie of Marrero, Louisiana; and his brother Thomas Scott Young of Houston. James is survived by his wife of 55 years, Jackie; daughter, Heley Young Jaramillo and husband, Johnny, of Kingwood; daughter, Wendy Young O'Donohoe and husband, Sean, of Galveston; grandchildren, Connor Charles O'Donohoe, Ryland James O'Donohoe and Lola Olivia Jaramillo; sister, Alice Paulette Brown, and husband, John, of Houston; sister-in-law, Thelma Lea Young, of Houston; brother-in-law, Donald Charles Laborie and wife, Dolores, of Marrero, Louisana; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Memorial Donations may be made in honor of James D. Young to Nacogdoches Breakfast Lions Club, Nacogdoches, Texas. The family of James D. Young is being served by Laird Funeral Home.
