Funeral services will be held 10:00AM, Wednesday, January 25, 2017 at St. Francis Catholic Church under the direction of Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory St. A Rosary will be held Tuesday evening, January, 24, 2017 from 6:00PM until 8:00PM at the funeral home. Serving as pallbearers will be Joe Hightower, Andy Serrano, Jimmy Lopez, Gerardo Meza, Jose Tavera, and Johnny Tavera. Mr. Tavera was born on August 22, 1957 in Seguin, TX to the late Jose G. Tavera and Delores Rubio Tavera. He enjoyed hunting and fishing; watching Nascar and college football; anything Harley Davidson; and watching monster trucks. James enjoyed spending time with his family but most of all he adored his granddaughters. He was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church. Preceding him in death were his parents. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Darlene Hudson Tavera of Abilene; his daughters, Amanda and Amy Tavera of Abilene, and Jennifer Hightower and husband, Joe of Roby; brothers, Johnny Tavera and wife, Connie of Dallas, and Jose Tavera of Abilene; a sister, Judy DeLaGarza and Andy Serrano of Abilene; grandchildren, Analicya Munoz of Abilene, Jennica Tavera of Abilene, and Ryleigh Jo Hightower of Roby; and numerous nieces and nephews.
