This obituary is administered by:
James A. Forrester passed away peacefully on June 21, 2014. He was born on Jan. 28, 1943, in Logan, Utah, to James Bowers Forrester and Marie Larsen. He grew up in Smithfield and graduated from North Cache High. He had a love for horses and horse racing. After he graduated from high school, he went to Nevada to work on a ranch for a short time. Jim returned and began his career working with horses as a jockey. He also raced chariots for a few years. Jim received an opportunity to work with a race horse trainer, Blaine Scheneveldt in California. Eventually he became a trainer himself. After a number of years working in California, he returned to Smithfield where he farmed and was self-employed as a painter until he retired. He is survived by two sisters: Ann and Woody Palmer of Brigham City, Utah, Linda and Robert Gardener of Bothell, Washington; three brothers: Lynn and Barbara Forrester of St George, Utah, Thad and Shirlee Forrester of Tooele, Utah, and David and Theresa Forrester of Smithfield. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, James and Marie Forrester, a sister, Judy Palmer, and a brother, Ned Forrester. Jim will be missed by all who knew him and loved him. At Jim's request no services will be held.
