Jackie Hammond, beloved mother, grandmother, and educator, passed away on May 28, 2023, in Durham, North Carolina. She was born on November 15, 1940, to Martin Davis and Delores Hammond. Jackie married her loving spouse, Elise Thomas, on Christmas Eve, and together, they raised three children.

Jackie was a proud graduate of Berry O’Kelly Boarding School in 1957 and went on to study at Winston-Salem State. She dedicated her career to education and worked as a public school teacher. Jackie was a strong and faithful disciple of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Her life in Christ included membership and service in the following churches, A.M.E. Zion of Kipling, North Carolina, Holly Springs, North Carolina, and Winston-Salem, North Carolina, Ebenezer and Evergreen A.M.E. Churches of Baltimore, Maryland, and the St. Phillip's Lutheran Church of Baltimore, Maryland, where she was a member at the time of her death. Her church activities focused on the youth and included working with the Sunday School and Young People's Department.

Jackie's infectious spirit and laughter will be missed by all who knew her. She leaves behind; daughter Cheryl Hammond, along with her spouse Ricky Hammond, her daughter Dorothy Hammond, and her daughter Hallie Mae Patterson with her spouse Gerald Patterson and sister-in-law and brother-in- law, Augusta Murray and John C. Murray, Sr.; her sister-in-law, Narcissa McKinnie of Holly Springs, North Carolina; four grandchildren, Susan, Diamond, Mark ,and Monica who will cherish the memories of their beloved forever.

Jackie, rest in peace, and know that the love and light you brought into this world will continue to shine through those you touched along the way.
