Jack W. Heitman, 92, of Girard, Kansas, passed away November 17, 2016 at Freeman West Hospital in Joplin, Missouri. He was born on October 30, 1924 in independence, Kansas to John H. Heitman and Angie (Ermey) Heitman. He grew up in Stark, Kansas and completed his education at Walnut, Kansas in 1942. Jack served 22 years in the Marine Corp from August 10, 1942 until his retirement in 1964 at the rank of Master Sergeant. He served in the Solomon Islands, Okinawa, the Philippine Islands and China during W.W. II. He also served in Korea during 1952 and 1953. On September 5, 1946 he married Pauline Gilliland of Girard, Kansas. Following his retirement from the military, they made their home in Girard and later in Frontenac, Kansas. During that time he was employed as a truck driver until his full retirement in 1985. He is survived by son Barry Heitman and wife Susan of Troy, Tennessee, son Jerry Heitman of Coffeyville, Kansas, daughter, Wendy Schmidt-Strukel and husband Warren of Girard, Kansas, son Bill Heitman and wife Joann of Hudson, Ohio, fourteen grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. Jack was preceded in death by his wife, Pauline, in 1998 and a son, Bryan K. Heitman, July 18, 2013. Jack married Reva J. Harryman in June of 1999 and she survives him in their home. Survivors include four stepsons, Kenneth, Larry, and Greg Harryman of Arma, Kansas, Mark Harryman of Olathe, Kansas and one step-daughter, Kathy McCabe of Frontenac, Kansas. He was also preceded in death by his parents and three sisters, Jean Bolin, Joan Gladson, and Rosemary Johnson and survived by one sister, Barbara Mathews of Oveido, Florida and two brothers, John Heitman of Tulsa, Oklahoma and Fred Heitman of Caney, Kansas. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m., Monday, at the Smith-Carson-Wall Funeral Home in Girard with Pastor Rick Prideaux officiating. Burial will be in the Girard Cemetery with Military Honors given by the Brown-Bishop Post No. 704, Veterans of Foreign Wars of Parsons, Kansas. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 7:00 p.m., Sunday at the Smith-Carson-Wall Funeral Home where friends may call after 1:00 p.m., Sunday. Memorials are suggested to the Wounded Warriors Project and these may be left at the Smith-Carson-Wall Funeral Home, 518 W St. John, Box 258, Girard, 66743.
