We gather here today to say goodbye to Irving Roberts, a man who lived a life full of laughter, love, and a whole lot of stories.
Irving was born on April 8, 1948, to his proud parents Milton Lee Roberts and LueEllen Virginia Roberts in Richmond City, Virginia. He grew up with a mischievous glint in his eye and a talent for getting himself out of sticky situations.
In 1982, Irving married the love of his life, Linda Lue Culver, and together they had two wonderful children, Ineke and Irving Jr. Irving was a dedicated family man, always putting his loved ones first and making sure they never went hungry – unless he burnt dinner, that is.
Irving spent the majority of his career working at Sampson Coating, where he became known for his quick wit, sharp mind, and ability to fix just about anything.
When Irving retired in 2010, he spent his days pursuing his favorite hobbies, fishing, and fixing cars. He could often be found casting a line in the nearest body of water or covered in grease under the hood of a car, muttering to himself about the good old days.
Irving was a man of many talents, a jack-of-all-trades, if you will. He had a knack for making people laugh, a knack for finding the best fishing spots, and a knack for forgetting his own birthday – but he always remembered to bring Linda flowers.
As we say goodbye to Irving, let us remember him for the joy he brought into our lives, the stories he told that always seemed too outrageous to be true, and the love he shared with his family. Rest in peace, Irving, and may you finally catch that big one up in heaven.
