Iria S. Mesquita, born on July 5, 1937, in the Azores, Portugal, passed away peacefully on December 12, 2024, in New Bedford, MA. A devoted matriarch, Iria cherished her family above all else. She was the loving mother of Gracinda Mendonca and Edgar Mendonca, and the late Victor Mendonca. Iria was a proud grandmother to Shane Mendonca, Rebecca Mendonca, Lindsey Williams, and Jermain Mendonca, and a doting great-grandmother to Nariyah Reed, Dereon Reed, Lesiah Williams, Zaiden Mendonca, Liniaya’le Williams, Zane Mendonca, and Leondre Williams.

Iria was known for her calm demeanor, genuine spirit, and unwavering love. She found joy in family gatherings and creating lasting memories with her children and grandchildren. Her love for Portuguese cuisine, especially grilled cod fish, brought warmth and comfort to her family’s gatherings. A devout Catholic, Iria’s faith was integral to her life, guiding her in raising her family with love and compassion. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
