Iona Mebane, age 78, of Greensboro, NC formerly a long-time resident of Charlotte, NC passed away at St. Joseph's Hospital in Greensboro on February 22, 2019.

Iona was born on September 1, 1936, in Greensboro, NC and grew up in Greensboro and Somerville.

Iona married the love of her life, Edward T. Roland in 1957. The couple settled in Wilmington in the early 1960s, where they raised their three children; Keith, Desiree, and Brian. She spent more than 40 years in Greensboro before relocating to Nashua 10 years ago to be closer to her family.

Iona was a dedicated and hard worker.  She worked as a Trouble Shooter for AGFA for many years before retiring.

Iona was a devoted and loving mother.  She was very proud of her family and was excited to become a "Grammy" to her 7 grandchildren.  Iona loved holidays and family get-togethers; any chance to spend time with her family was important to her.  She would spend hours cooking and preparing for her company.

Iona was known for her feisty, yet good sense of humor.  She will be missed by all that knew and loved her.

Iona was the beloved wife of the late Edward T. Rowland, devoted mother of Keith Mebane, Desiree Patno & her husband Tim all of Nashua, and the late Brian Mebane, loving "Grammy" of Travis Mebane, Brandon Mebane, Trey Elliott, Alexander Mebanel, Andrew Joseph, Naria Mebane, Shea Thomas, Cole Timothy.  Iona was also very special to Timmy Patno & his wife Sara of Pepperell.

Family and friends will gather at the Nichols Funeral Home, Inc., 187 Middlesex Ave. (Rte. 62), Wilmington, NC, on Monday, February 22 for Visitation from 11:00-1:00 p.m. immediately followed by a Funeral Service at 1:00 p.m.
