Hubert James Cross age 81, of DeMotte, passed away Sunday April 24, 2016, in Chicago.  He was born on Feb. 22, 1935, in Nashville, Illinois, to James and Florence (Fremgen) Cross, both deceased.Hubert was a 1953 graduate of Chicago Vocational School in Chicago, and a US Marine veteran.  On July 2, 1960, he married the love of his life, Mary J. Lachcik, who passed away Nov. 23, 2011.  He had worked for Illinois Central Railroad for 30 years and Metra for 10 years.  He was a member of International Brotherhood of Signalman.  Hubert was the master of tinkering, an avid fisherman and enjoyed woodworking.Herb was one of a kind with a heart of Gold, sharp witted and he will be greatly missed by his family, friends and his morning coffee club.Hubert is survived by his children; Diane (Edman) Schneider, Crete, IL; James (Tina)Cross, Richton Park, Illinois; Jozef Cross, Chicago, and Michael (Becky) Cross, Mt. Vernon, Illinois;grandsons,  Michael, Dylan and Jared, and sister, Mary Renje, FloridaPreceded in death by his parents, loving wife, Mary, sister, Jeanette Ramirez and two brothers-in-law, Joseph Ramirez and Frank Renje.Friends may call  on Saturday May 7, 2016 from 10-11 a.m. with a Memorial service at 11 a.m. at Calvary Assembly of God Church, DeMotte, with Esther Sayler officiating.Memorials may be made to and/or .
