TAMARAC, FLA. - Herbert Thomas Donahue, 89, passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, October 18, 2011. Herb was born on May 30, 1922, to the late Thomas and Katherine (nee: Manderfeld) Donahue. Herb was a resident of Florida for many years and proud of his hometown of Racine. Herb was honored to have the privilege to marry two wonderful women, who preceded him in death. The lovely Eunice (nee: Dryer) Donahue passed away way too early on January 17, 1997, after a valiant battle with cancer. Herb met the second love of his live, Lorraine (nee: Cassidy) Donahue, who kept him in check until her passing on November 20, 2008. He attended Holy Name and Washington Park High School. He proudly served in the United States Army Air Corps, 34th Bomber Group, in World War II and was based in Mendlesham, England. Herb worked at Webster Electric in Racine and later retired from Chris Craft in Bradenton, Fla. Herb loved to golf, travel, sail, and spend time visiting family and friends. Some of his favorite memories were of taking a swim in the ocean right from his doorstep after he got off work. Herb was a strong believer in his Catholic faith. In his young life at the age of 12 after the tragic death of his father, Herb stepped up to be the man of the family. Throughout his life, the only two people who could keep him in his place were Eunice and Lorraine; through them, his love and tenderness shone as bright as the sun. Surviving are his sisters- in-law, Merle (nee: Van Lone) Donahue of Racine and Mary (nee: Korzinek) Donahue of Milwaukee; nephews, Kevin Donahue, Patrick (Anne) Donahue, Mike (Paty) Donahue, and Brian Donahue; nieces, Maureen Donahue, Kerry (Dave) Passehl, and Erin (Kurt) MacLennan; great- nephews and great-niece, Thomas, Jake, Marcus, Ryan, Colin, and Emma; and many family and friends too numerous to mention, all held close at heart. In addition to his parents and spouses, Herb was preceded in death by his brothers, William Patrick, James Peter, and Joseph Leo; and his sister, Valerie. Services will be held at St. Malachy Church, 5200 North University Drive, Tamarac, Fla. 33321, on Wednesday, October 26, 2011, at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Jude's Children's Hospital are encouraged. A special thanks to Steve and Lyn Wiley, who have been wonderful friends and helped Herb and Lorraine out in ways too numerous to mention. Their dedication and caring allowed Herb to be able to stay in Florida, where he wished to live out his final years.
