Helen E. PorterGrimesHelen was born on a farm near Nevada, Iowa on October 20, 1916 to Roy and Mina Weeks. Helen passed away April 24 at the age of 100. Helen married Herschel Porter in 1938 and they were married 48 years until his passing. They were blessed with two children, Karen J. Evans (Roy) of Johnston and Jack B. Porter (Janet) of Urbandale. She is survived by her granddaughters, Becky Moffitt (Dick) of Johnston, Robin Stiles (Terry) of Maxwell, Iowa and Jill Cherkas of Runnells, Iowa and many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Also survived by brother, Jim Weeks (Velda) of Henderson, Iowa. Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Herschel and 5 siblings. Helen was an avid seamstress, quilter and loved to travel. She did many volunteer projects over the years. She retired from Principal financial Group (formerly Bankers Life). A memorial will be held at a later date.
