Helen A. LekowskyWest Des MoinesHelen A. Lekowsky, 81, of West Des Moines died Friday, January 13, 2017, at the Iowa Jewish Senior Life Center. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Sunday, January 15 at Iles Funeral Homes - Dunn's Chapel followed by burial at Jewish Glendale Cemetery.Helen was born on July 1, 1935 in West Des Moines to Sol and Fanny Brody and was a graduate of Valley High School. She worked for the family business, Brody Grocery Store, until her marriage to Harlan W. Lekowsky on August 12, 1958. She and Harlan worked side by side at their business, American Plumbing Supply, where she taught home owners and plumbers how to repair plumbing for over 50 years. Helen enjoyed making a home for her family and traveling with them on many vacations. She was a member of Beth El Jacob Synagogue and Sisterhood. Those left to cherish Helen's memory include her husband of 58 years, Harlan; two children, David (Susan) and Annette Lekowsky; three grandchildren, Reyna, Avi and Sammy Lekowsky; and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and three siblings, Harold and Charles Brody and Gertrude Blair.The family will sit Shiva at her home 4:30 p.m. daily through the week.The family wishes to express their appreciation to the staff at the Iowa Jewish Senior Life Center and HCI Hospice for the excellent care Helen received.
