We are gathered here today to bid farewell to the incomparable Hattie Mae Griffin, who passed away on January 25, 2026 at the age of 74 in Ferriday, Louisiana. Hattie Mae was born on August 7, 1951, and was known for her larger-than-life personality and infectious laughter.
Hattie Mae was a force to be reckoned with, both in the kitchen and in her career as a nurse. She could whip up a batch of gumbo that would make your taste buds sing, and her patients always knew they were in good hands with Nurse Griffin on duty.
In 2018, Hattie Mae decided to hang up her nursing scrubs and retire, much to the dismay of her colleagues who knew they would never find another nurse quite like her.
When she wasn't busy saving lives or cooking up a storm in the kitchen, Hattie Mae enjoyed spending time with her beloved husband, Benny Griffin Sr., whom she married in 1949. Together, they raised three wonderful children: Michael, Delores, and Benny Jr.
Hattie Mae also adored her 10 grandchildren, who were the light of her life. She may have spoiled them rotten, but that's what grandmothers are for!
Unfortunately, Hattie Mae's zest for life was cut short when she suffered a stroke earlier this year. While we mourn her passing, we take comfort in knowing that she is now in a better place, probably whipping up a feast for the angels.
Rest in peace, Hattie Mae. You will be sorely missed, but never forgotten.
