Harold StarrWEST COLLEGE CORNER, Ind. - Harold "Red' Starr, 82 years old, of West College Corner, Ind., passed away on Wednesday, May 4, 2011. He was born on Nov. 25, 1928, in Spring Valley, Ohio, to Vaughn and Helen Secrist. Red was a high school graduate of Waynesville High School in Waynesville, Ohio. He served as an aircraft mechanic from 1948-1952 in the United States Air Force and was stationed in Texas, Illinois, Florida and Alaska. He then relocated to College Corner. He became an active participant in the College Corner community and the Union County area. He served on the College Corner Town Council; he was a Scout Master with the Boy Scouts; he served on the Union County Area Plan Commission and Zoning Boards; was a school bus driver for the local school district in which he loved transporting the high school baseball team. He was retired from Jarvis TV. Red was a member of the College Corner Community Club and the College Corner Fire Department and was a former fire instructor at the D Russell Lee Vocational School. He was selected to serve as grand marshal of the College Corner Fourth of July parade in 2000. Red was a ham radio operator and a former pilot who loved to fly planes. He was a member of the Oxford Baptist Church in which he previously served as trustee and treasurer of the church. Red was preceded in death by his first wife, Jane Starr of West College Corner, Ind.; his parents, Vaughn and Helen Secrist of Waynesville, Ohio; a brother, Roger Secrist of Waynesville, Ohio; and a grandson, Casey Starr of West College Corner, Ind. He is survived by his wife, Judy Starr of West College Corner, Ind.; son, Dennis (Lisa) Starr of West College Corner, Ind.; daughters, Nancy Byrd of Richmond, Ind., Beth Napier of West College Corner, lnd., and Angie (Steve) Pennington of Connersville, Ind.; sisters, Karen Sue (Randy) Thompson of New Castle, Ind., and Maryann Haines of Spring Valley, Ohio; grandchildren, Brian Starr (Sarah Hensley), Matt Starr and Emily Starr, all of West College Corner, Ind., Chris (Randi) Hollen of Liberty, Ind., Shannon (Chris) Evans of Connersviile, Ind., and Cody, Allison and Jon Pennington, all of Connersville, lInd.; great-grandchildren, Blake Evans of Connersville, Ind., and Ryleigh and Rhett Hollen of Liberty, Ind.; and many other special family members.Visitation will be Friday, May 6, from 5-8 p.m. at the Smith & Ogle Funeral Home, 5086 College Corner Pike, Oxford, OH 45056. Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 7, at 11 a.m. at the funeral home followed by burial in the College Corner Cemetery. ln lieu of flowers, memorial donations in "Red's Memory" may be made to the College Corner Fire Department.
