HOWE — Harold E. Persing, 93, of Howe, Indiana, died Sunday, Feb. 14, 2016, at his home. Mr. Persing had retired from the Indiana Department of Transportation after many years of service. He had lived in St. Joseph County, Michigan, and LaGrange County most of his life. Mr. Persing was a United States Navy veteran having served during World War II. He was born on Sept. 30, 1922, in Sturgis, Michigan,to Edward A. and Hazel A. (Cady) Persing. On Sept. 18, 1976, in Orland, he married Margaret O. Garlets; she survives in Howe. Also surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Sue Persing of Sturgis, Michigan; two stepsons, Bob and Arvilla Lyster of Howe and Charles and Sue Lyster of Fort Wayne; two grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; four stepgreat-grandchildren; and a brother, James Persing of St. Louis, Missouri. Also preceding him in death were his parents, three brothers, and four sisters. Cremation has taken place. Services will be at a later date. Memorials may be made to ARK Animal Shelter. Frurip-May Funeral Home in LaGrange is charge of arrangements. Condolences may be left for the family at www.fruripmayfuneralhome.com.
