Russell, Harker E. Jr. "Herk," 81, passed away on March 31, 2006 at Cherry Creek Nursing Center in Wichita. He was born on December 18, 1924, in Okmulgee, Okla., the son of Harker E. and Ruth DeWitt Russell. Herk graduated from Iola High School in 1942 and entered the University of Kansas. In January, 1943, Herk enlisted in the U.S. Navy, where he was a naval aviator and flew PBY sea planes in the Pacific theatre. After his discharge from the Navy in 1945, Herk returned to the University of Kansas and graduated in 1948 with a B.S. in Business Administration. Herk and his father owned and operated H.E. Russell Sales Company in Iola. He was a member of St. Timothy's Episcopal Church in Iola and Phi Kappa Psi Fraternity. On August 24, 1947, Herk married Anna Jeanette Young in Concordia. She preceded him in death on January 30, 1986. Survivors include, one daughter, Pam Russell Alexander and her husband, Ken, of Topeka; two sons, Herk Russell and his wife, Margie, of Wichita, and Rick Russell and his wife, Rachel, of Stilwell. He is also survived by six grandchildren, S.K. Alexander, Harker Russell IV, Ben Russell, Rebecca Russell, Sarah Russell, and Libby Russell. Herk's sister, Romaine Tharp, of Iola, also survives. Visitation with family will be Monday 5 - 7 p.m., at the Broadway Mortuary, Wichita. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 4, 2006, at 10:30 a.m. at Hope Community Church, 1831 E. 21st Street, Andover. Graveside services will follow at 3 p.m. at Mount Hope Cemetery, 4700 SW 17th Street, in Topeka. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice, 313 S.
