Gwendolyn Dickerson, 79, passed away peacefully on October 22, 2025, in Rochester, New York. Born on February 14, 1946, in the same city she called home throughout her life, Gwendolyn’s journey was marked by dedication—to her family, her community, and her work.
Gwendolyn was a devoted wife to the late Charles Dickerson II and a loving mother to her two sons, Charles Dickerson III and William Thomas Dickerson. Her legacy continues through her cherished grandchildren: Ross-Perry Dickerson, Carter Dickerson, Harper Dickerson, and Charlotte Dickerson. She also leaves behind a host of nieces and nephews who were touched by her warmth and guidance.
For two decades, Gwendolyn served with commitment at Colgate University. Her time there reflected not only professional dedication but also a deep belief in the power of education and community engagement. Beyond her career, she was widely known for her active involvement in local causes and church life. Her passion for service made her a respected figure in Rochester’s civic circles.
A woman of many interests, Gwendolyn found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She was an avid gardener whose green thumb brought beauty to every season. Her kitchen was often filled with the comforting aromas of home-cooked meals prepared with love. In quieter moments, she could be found immersed in a good book—reading being one of her lifelong passions.
Gwendolyn’s presence enriched the lives of those around her. Whether through a shared story over coffee or tireless efforts to uplift her neighborhood, she left an indelible mark on all who knew her.
May her memory bring comfort and inspiration to those who loved her.
