This obituary is administered by:
Gunter HoepfnerBorn: June 28, 1926; in Finkenwalder, GermanyDied: September 26, 2016; in St. Charles, ILGunter Hoepfner passed away of natural causes on September 26, 2016 at the age of 90, at his beloved home in St. Charles.Gunter was born on June 28, 1926 in Finkenwalder, Germany. He was the second of three children born to Karl Otto and Margarete Anne (Brunn.) During the war his school was closed and he was drafted into the Army in 1942.Gunter married Margot Edith Mende on November 8, 1952 in Lohne, Germany. Gunter, Margot, and their children, Arnim and Ingrid were fortunate and grateful to be sponsored to immigrate to America in 1956. He worked hard as a master tailor for Erday's Clothing Store in Geneva for 3 years. After that he opened Gunter's Clothing and Tailoring in St. Charles in 1959 and ran it until 2001. It was important to him that he returned the opportunity of sponsorship, so he sponsored 2 tailors to come to this great country. From the 1960's thru the 1980's Gunter was well known in the community and it was even said that "He knew every man's waist size in St. Charles"!Gunter is survived by his wife Margot; 3 children, Arnim (Paula) from Maple Park, IL, Ingrid Hoepfner-Jennings (Mark) from St. Thomas, USVI and John (Terrie) from Marietta, GA. He is also survived by 4 grandsons, Eric Jennings, Dylan Jennings, Alex Hoepfner, Eric Hoepfner; and 1 great grandson, Kingston Jennings. He leaves behind his sister, Dorothea Ashton of Tampa, Florida; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.Gunter was an avid skier and opened up Gunter's Ski & Tennis shop during the 1970's. He also loved vacationing in the US Virgin Islands (Margot and he have had a beautiful home there since 1982). In his later years he loved working in the yard and "tinkering" around the house.Gunter is preceded in death and now will rejoin his father, Karl, mother, Margarete and sister, Ruth.On behalf of his family, we would like to thank all of you who contributed love and joy into his life. Per his request there will be no funeral service (he outlived most of his friends and did not like funerals.) A future date is being planned for a celebration of his life.
