Glen James Hobbs Obituary

Dec 12, 1920 - Sep 23, 2011

This obituary is administered by:
Glen James Hobbs12/12/1920 - 10/14/2016Glen James Hobbs, 95, completed his mission here on earth on Thursday, October 14, 2016, at Highland, Utah. He was born on December 12, 1920, to Samuel Catmull and Mary Caroline Anderson Hobbs in Benson, Utah, where he lived most of his life. Being raised in a large family, Glen was the eighth child of eleven children. When he was six years old, his mother died. Anna Marie Lord later married Glen's father and helped raise the younger children.Schools that Glen attended were Benson Elementary, Smithfield Jr. High and North Cache High School. The day before his 18th birthday Glen's father suffered a heart attack. The next day Glen took over his father's milk hauling route and hauled milk for the next 48 years for Bordens, Sego/Pet Milk and Cache Valley Dairy. When he wasn't hauling milk, Glen contracted his truck to haul gravel, beet pulp, lumber and just about anything that needed to be hauled. Glen also purchased the family farm where he continued to run a dairy farm. On December 3, 1941, Glen married his sweetheart, Beth Cooper, in the Logan Temple. They became the parents of five children. One important trait that Glen taught his children was the value of work. As a family they worked together, and after the work was completed they played together. His children will never forget the great vacations to the Uintahs, Montana, San Francisco and Yellowstone. Fishing was a sport Glen enjoyed, as well as deer and pheasant hunting. His garden was envied by all who passed by.A great sense of humor was a characteristic that everyone enjoyed in Glen. All who knew him felt of his genuine love for them. Anyone could set a clock by his punctuality. He enjoyed the friendships of many milk customers over the years as he hauled their milk.Glen served faithfully in the LDS Church in many callings including scouting, Young Men's President, home teacher and bishop. One of the highlights of Glen's and Beth's lives was serving a full time mission together in North Carolina after Glen's retirement. Following their mission they officiated for nearly 12 years in the Logan LDS Temple. He had a strong testimony of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. After being married for almost 70 years, Beth passed away on September 23, 2011. Glen has missed her very much the past five years. Their reunion now is filled with great happiness. His family is so blessed by his great example of goodness and righteousness.Glen is the father of five children: Caren (deceased); Gary (Arlene) Hobbs of American Fork, Utah; Dennis (Kathleen) Hobbs of Draper, Utah; DelRay (Carolyn) Hobbs of Point McKenzie, Alaska; and ReNae (Randy) Coleman of North Logan, Utah. He is also survived by 22 grandchildren, 70 great-grandchildren and a sister-in-law, Gayle Hobbs, of Logan.Glen was preceded in death by his wife, parents, infant daughter Caren, all his siblings: Earnest Hobbs, Melvin Hobbs, Lucille Zbinden, Orval Hobbs, Mary Loftus, Edna Hobbs, Irene Loftus, Virgil Hobbs, Ruby Hobbs and DeEsta Naylor.Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 14, 2016, 11 a.m. at the Benson Ward Chapel 3432 N. 3000 W., Benson.
