Gladys L. GroveYorkGladys Lucille (Stein) Grove, 87, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 27, at her daughter's home in Catawissa. She was the wife of the late Martin Cletus Grove, Jr., to whom she was married on May 11, 1949, and spent 55 years together before his death. A Celebration of Life Service will be Wednesday, March 2 at 11 a.m. at Cross Roads United Methodist Church, 6881 Church Road, Cross Roads, with her pastor, the Rev. Michael G. Trimmer, officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. A viewing will be from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church. Life Tributes by Olewiler & Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Inc., 35 Gotham Place, Red Lion, is in charge of arrangements. Gladys was born on August 8, 1928, in Freysville, York County, the daughter of the late Walter Hyson and Annie Dora (Emenheiser) Stein. She was a 1945 graduate of Red Lion Area High School and a 1949 graduate of York Hospital School of Nursing. She retired from York Hospital in 1990, where she had worked over the course of 51 years prn (where needed) on the floors and finished in the recovery room. After her retirement, she volunteered for 20 years in the medical records department of the hospital. She was a member of Cross Roads United Methodist Church, where she was active in United Methodist Women and the Willing Workers Sunday School class, and served in the kitchen. She enjoyed caring for children, cooking and baking, crocheting and knitting, and raising flowers (especially rare African violets). Even in her last days, she showed her sense of humor and her devotion to her family.Mrs. Grove is survived by a son, Randall E. "Randy" Grove; and daughter, Judith A. "Judy" Grove, who lived in her home; four other daughters, Linda G. and husband George Nicholas "Nick" Fletcher, Silvia I. and husband Edward M Boublis, all of Catawissa, Nancy D. and husband David J. Fox of Bloomsburg, and Cynthia R. "Cindy" and husband Terry L. Lyons of Millville; 12 grandchildren, Nathan W. and wife Karen L. Fletcher, Jason B. and wife Vanessa M. S. Fletcher, Amy L. Kauffman, Ryan J. and wife Melissa L. Fox, Cherie J. and husband Jason D. Moore, Sara I. and husband Aaron W. Cole, and Gregory M., Jonathan E,, Jeffrey A. L., Christian J. D. F., and Elizabeth A. Lyons; nine great-grandchildren, Evan, Amelia and Hannah Fletcher, Daidyn and Becca Kauffman, Emily and Allison Moore, and Ava and Kailan Cole; brother, Bruce and wife Beverly Stein of Freysville; and brother-in-law, Robert R. Stough of York. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Norma A. Stough and Margaret L. Diehl. Margaret passed away at Augsburg Lutheran Village, Baltimore, Md., the day before Gladys.
