It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Gerald Hunter, who departed peacefully at his home in Spring Valley, New York, on May 27, 2026. Born on May 2, 1933, in St Anne Parish, Jamaica, he was the son of the late Victor and Janette Hunter.
Gerald shared a beautiful life with his beloved wife, Sadie Mae, to whom he was married for 64 years. Together, they built a loving home and raised five wonderful children: Janice, Donna, Kevin, Molly, and Dougie.
A devoted family man, Gerald found his greatest joy in his role as a father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was a constant presence in the lives of his seven grandchildren—Javone (and his wife, Ashly), Nadia, Jalan, and Jaden, along with his other cherished grandchildren—and he took immense pride in being the great-grandfather to his one and only great-grandchild, Marly. He delighted in sharing his passions for gardening, building, and working on cars with his family, creating memories that will be treasured forever.
Beyond his home, Gerald was a pillar of his community, known for his kind heart and his generous willingness to lend a hand to any neighbor in need. His warmth and spirit touched many, and he will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to a local charity in Gerald’s memory.
