ORLAND — George R. "Pap" West, 74, of Orland, Ind., died Monday, March 10, 2014, at Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo, Mich. Mr. West was born on August 24, 1939, in Knox County, Ky., to Floyd A. and Nellie (Collinsworth) West. Pap was a United States Army veteran. After 33 years of service, he retired from Sturgis Foundry in Sturgis, Mich. He was a member of Stroh Church of Christ in Stroh, Ind., and the Orland American Legion Post #423. On March 24, 2003 in Gatlinburg, Tenn., he married Susan (Hoerl) Martin. She survives in Orland, Ind. Also surviving are two sons and a daughter-in-law, Randy West of Auburn, Ind., and Scott and Melissa West of Stroh, Ind.; three stepdaughters and a stepson-in-law, Christina and Todd Blaskie of Rome City, Ind., Tonyia Sawyer of Angola, Ind., and Teresa Sawyer of Angola, Ind.; and two stepsons, Jon Martin of Howe, Ind., and Lloyd Sawyer of Wolcottville, Ind.; three great-granddaughters he was raising, Destiny Collins, Arianna Singleton, and Ivy Singleton; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; three sisters and a brother-in-law, Janice Bennett of Middletown, Ohio, Nancy Smith of Corbin, Ky., and Thurza and Harold Rodgers of Riverside, Calif.; four brothers and two sisters-in-law, Floyd and Brenda West of Angola, Ind., Robert and Leanor West of Angola, Ind., Edd West of Woodbine, Ky., and Terry West of Corbin, Ky.; and several nieces and nephews. His parents, a stepson, Tommy Sawyer, a sister, Lavina Jackson, and a brother-in-law Frank Bennett, all preceded him in death. A funeral service will be held on Friday, March 14, 2014, at 11 a.m. at the Stroh Church of Christ, 4540 S. C.R. 1100W, Hudson, Ind., with the Rev. Michael Hamm officiating. Visitation will take place at the church on Thursday, March 13, 2014, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Memorials may be made to Stroh Church of Christ for the Life Center.
