McManness, George G., Jr. died peacefully at home on October 15, 2016, after a long illness. He was born on July 5, 1937, in Lawrence, KS, to George G. McManness and Margaret Smith McManness. He is survived by his wife, June Hahn Johnson; daughter, Kim Lerma; stepsons, Brad Graham and Aaron Johnson; stepdaughter, Jennifer Bergman; and brother, Raymond McManness. He is preceded in death by Virginia McManness, his wife of 30 years, and his son, Robert McManness. He will be missed by grandchildren, Shannon and Cheryl McElwee, Caleb and Brayden Bergman, Addison and Alexandra Johnson, Matthew Graham, Kellsie Vernia, and great-grandchildren, Payton Graham, Braxton Vernia, and Carson Vernia, as well as extended family and friends. George graduated from high school in Wichita, KS, where he became a gifted trumpet player and talented musician. After graduation George's love of wheels and gift in sales led him to a successful career in auto sales from Wichita, KS to Cherry Hill, New Jersey. Salesmanship ultimately led to his career with Lakeview and Old Missions Cemeteries. Hired by Service Corporation, Inc. in 1981, George worked in Wichita, KS, Arlington, TX, and Houston, TX. He retired as Senior V.P. of Sales for Service Corporation International in 2001. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. on the evening of Friday, October 21, 2016, in the Red Oak Room of Memorial Oaks Funeral Home, 13001 Katy Freeway, Houston, TX 77079. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, October 22, 2016, at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home Chapel. Entombment will be in Wichita, KS at 3 p.m. on Sunday, October 23, 2016, at Lakeview Cemetery. We especially thank all of George's friends and care-givers for the love and consideration shown our family during this time.
