George A. Miller Obituary

Dec 01, 2016 - Nov 01, 2016

This obituary is administered by:
George A. Miller Jr. passed away on Nov. 12, 2016, at his home in Kasilof, Alaska. He was born on Dec. 8, 1955, in Victoria, Texas, but spent most of his life growing up and working in Anchorage, Alaska. He will be greatly missed by his daughter, Georgia Tackett (Bill); son, Matthew Miller (Sunny); and grandchildren, Lance, Grace and Myles Tackett. He is also survived by his mother, Evelyne Nealeigh (Marty); brothers, Billy Miller (Linda) and Eddie Miller (Tina); and sisters, Betty Fauset (Ronnie) and Janice Miller, all from the New Braunfels, Texas, area. Also surviving are his stepmother, Sherrill Miller (Clay Larson); and former wife and mother of his children, Georgeanne Miller; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He is predeceased by his father, George A. Miller Sr.; and grandparents, Edgar and Agusta Miller and Alvin and Ida Turner. After graduating from high school in Anchorage, George attended the Anchorage Alaska Carpenters Training Center, which jump-started his career in carpentry. He worked all his life in the carpentry and building construction field. He worked his way up through the ranks in Anchorage and eventually became a foreman and a superintendent of many building projects around the state while working for Brady Construction. He retired in January 2015, settling into his remodeled cabin on the Kenai Peninsula. George was known for his infectious sense of humor and quick wit. He expected the best of himself and from all who had contact with him. This was made evident by the respect given to him by people who worked for him, his family and the many friends that he had. In the summer, you could often find George and friends or family fishing for red salmon on the Kenai River, remodeling his cabin or working around his property. Rebuilding a motorcycle or a '55 Chevy were two of the things that his brother, Eddie, and he loved to do together. They also attended NASCAR races and went picking in Texas together. George and his grandchildren and children were able to develop a close bond in the last several years. Because of this, they will have fond memories that will last forever. A celebration of life for George will be held on Thursday, Dec. 8, 2016, from 3:30 p.m. - 6:30 p.m. at Gallos Restaurant, 8311 Arctic Blvd in Anchorage. Memorial contributions can be made in George A. Miller Jr.'s name to the , 3700 Woodland Drive #700, Anchorage, AK 99517; or a .
