A Homegoing Celebration

On October 31,1972 Gabriel "Gabe" Maxson of Pittsburg passed away at the age of 61 years. Our beloved brother, uncle, and friend, Gabriel "Gabe" Maxson peacefully passed away with his family by his side on October 31, 1972, of natural causes. He will be lovingly remembered by his sister-in-law Rose Maxson, nephews Lyons and Cory Maxson, niece Raynell Maxson, as well as numerous friends and members of the community. He was predeceased by his loving brother Troy Maxson.

Gabriel Maxson was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. As a child Gabriel enjoyed running and playing baseball with his older brother Troy. They spent a lot of time with their father who taught them the value of work and made sure they understood the importance of taking care of responsibilities. Gabriel also enjoyed making up childhood stories and often would have innocent contest with his older brother to see who could come up with the tallest and best tales. Early on he had a strong spiritual belief in God and attended church regularly. He believed as a young man he has a duty to be a protector to his family, and his community. Once he was old enough and came of age, he also felt that this duty extended to his country.

He bravely served in the US Army during World War II, and he sustained a serious wound in the head. A beautiful soul and imagination our dear Gabe insist that he’s in regular association with renowned religious figures, and also considered himself to no longer be human, and to have died and been spiritually reborn into his sainthood. Gabriel the herald of visions, messenger of God and one of the angels of higher rank. He makes God's message understandable to people and helps them to accept it with a pure heart.

When arriving back home he was cared for by his deceased brother Troy Maxson and sister-in-law Rose Maxson in their family home, until he later decided to move on to a new place of residence alongside and in the care of Miss Pearl. After a long battle with head trauma Gabriel was temporarily placed under the care of a psychiatric hospital until 1963, when he was released from the hospital to attend his brother's funeral, and he prayed to Saint Peter to let Troy into heaven.

Gabe enjoyed spending a lot of time chasing hell hounds and reminiscing about all the lovely biscuits he's shared with St. Peter while on his first tour of Heaven. To earn an honest living, he started out selling fruits and vegetables. One day in 1965, he played the local numbers game and won. He worked closely with his family to do something that he felt would be great for the community. He decided he wanted to open up a place where the hungry could come sit or stand and have a meal, so he started a sandwich shop. Gabriel named the shop Heavens Bread. He created a menu of seven sandwiches due to his love of sandwiches and wanting to share his divine connection with the world. He said it was always nice to eat with your hands. As a gift to himself he purchased a new trumpet that he always carried in order to be prepared to open the gates of heaven when necessary and tell members of the community about judgement day. On the weekends he would entertain his guests with a tune he made called The Seventh Trumpet. Gabriel said it sounded so that glory is given to God and His kingdom is announced because with God all these miracles of his new life on earth had been made possible.

A Visitation / Prayer Service will be held at 10:00am, on November 7,1972 at Ebenezer Baptist Church 2001 Wylie Ave, Pittsburgh, PA 15219.

The family wishes to send a special thank you to the congregation at the Ebenezer Baptist Church for their care and compassion.
