Blandin, Franklin E. "Bud"Franklin E. "Bud" Blandin, age 93, formerly of Granger Road, Manitowoc, died Sunday, October 22, 2017 at the River's Bend Health & Rehabilitation Center, Manitowoc.Bud was born on July 23, 1924 in Laona, Wisconsin, son of the late Elwin and Lilly (Lee) Blandin. He grew up in Kohler and attended local area schools, graduating with the class of 1943 from Kohler High School. Bud served in the United States Navy from June 28, 1943 until April 7, 1946. He was a member of Crew 9 of Patrol Bombing Squadron 106 during WW II. Bud flew 37 patrol-bombing missions throughout the Pacific Theater. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and Air Medal for his service. On June 14, 1947 he married his high school sweetheart Beverly J. Rieck in Kohler. She preceded him in death on December 14, 2001. Bud graduated in 1950 from UW La Crosse with a degree in Science and Physical Education. He taught school for 5 years in Orangeville, IL moving in 1955 to Manitowoc. Bud retired in the mid 1980's from Hamann Construction Co. where he worked as an estimator for many years. He was a longtime member of Redeemer Lutheran Church. Bud enjoyed riding his bicycle, yard work, gardening and big band music.He is survived by his four children and their spouses: Michael (Kay) Blandin, Manitowoc; Barbara (Scott) Stangel, Sheboygan; Kevin (Linda) Blandin, Noblesville, IN; Jeffrey Blandin, Sheboygan; six grandsons: Brian Blandin; Eric (Holly) Stangel; Kyle (Annie) Stangel; Benjamin Blandin; Jeremy Blandin; Tyler (Jessica) Blandin; three great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law and one brother-in-law: Gloria Blandin, Sheboygan; Carol & Lee Oetzel, Grafton, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents: Elwin and Lilly Blandin; his wife: Beverly J. Blandin; one sister and brother-in-law: Bernice (Harold) Visser; one brother: Lee Blandin.Private family graveside services will be held at the Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc. The Rev. Zachary DeArmond will officiate. A Memorial fund has been established in his name. The Jens Family Funeral Home & Crematory of Manitowoc is assisting the family.
