Frank Norris CarterSan Angelo, TXFrank Norris "Doc" Carter, was welcomed into the arms of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on February 18, 2017. Doc was born on March 19, 1927 in Jones County Texas to William A. and Emma Ivey Cook Carter of Hawley, Texas. He is survived by the love of his life Mamie Lou Betterton Carter, who he married 57 years ago, his daughter Cristal Kurtz and her husband Glenn of Fairfax, Virginia and son William A Carter II and his wife Jessica of Wolfforth, Tx. Doc was loved by his grandchildren Lane Carter and wife Paige, of San Angelo, Ethan and Emma Carter of Wolfforth, Tx and his precious great grandson, Jackson Carter of San Angelo. He was preceded in death by his parents and 8 siblings. Doc was a member of the First Baptist Church in San Angelo since 1964 where he made numerous friends. Following his discharge from the Navy after WWII Doc graduated from Hardin Simmons University in Abilene, TX and worked for Lone Star Industries as a sales representative for over 25 years. After he retired in 1985 he began his journey through the genealogy world researching the lineage of his family as well as Mamie's, uncovering his kinship to interesting ancestors. He had a passion for the outdoors also going on hunting, fishing, camping, and great American road trips with friends and family. Doc also loved gardening and growing a variety of flowers. He loved woodworking as well, frequently helping with the "Christmas In April" group and he was known for making bird houses and "Mosquito" houses for friends and family. Doc's practical jokes were known by many who fell victim to his mischievous ways. Customers, friends and family knew to be careful when seeing the grin on his face. His knowledge of history made for some very interesting stories, most of them true. You always knew Doc was up to something due to the twinkle in his eye and fun loving smile.
