Frances P. Medina, a longtime resident of Las Vegas passed away peacefully on July 5, 2016 at Vida Encantada Nursing Home. Frances, a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great grandmother, and friend, was born on June 4, 1924 in Manuelitas, to Lino Padilla and Eufemia Valdez. She married Claudio B. Medina on Jan. 8, 1945 in Sapello and had 13 children. Frances was preceded in death by her parents, and husband; infant twins, Joseph and Josephine Medina; daughters, Bernadette Gonzales Sandoval, Emma Gonzales and Helen Medina; brothers, Napoleon Padilla and Adolfo Padilla, and sisters, Lucinda Vigil, and Juanita Vigil. She is survived by her sons and daughters, Samuel Medina, Herman (Viola) Medina, Roberto (Ada) Medina, Ernesto (Velvet) Medina, Patricio (Valerie) Medina, Priscilla (Ralph) Bustos, Claudette Medina and Brenda (Leroy) Gutierrez. She is also survived by 24 grandchildren, 41 great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren. Also surviving Frances are her brothers and sisters, Rose Borrego, Raymond (Helen) Padilla, Leroy (Elsie) Padilla and Tonie (Isidro) Rodriguez; her longtime roommate, Rebecca Jones; and many other relatives and friends. Frances was a longtime member of Our Lady of Sorrows Church and a lifetime member of St. Francis of Assisi Society. She worked hard all her life, but she used to enjoy going to the senior citizen dances on Sunday afternoons, as well as going to the casinos and bingos. Frances also loved crafts, had a great sense of humor, and she always knew how to put a smile on your face. A rosary will be held at 7 p.m. today (Friday) and the funeral mass will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, both at Our Lady of Sorrows Church with Father Douglas Mitchell as celebrant. Interment will follow at St. Anthony's Cemetery in Las Vegas. Serving as pallbearers will be six of her grandsons, Paul Gonzales, Joseph Gonzales, Joseph Medina, Robert Medina, Chris Mark Medina, and Michael Medina. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to the Building Fund at Our Lady of Sorrows Church.
