Frances J. SnelsonFrances Johnson Snelson passed away on May 31, 2017 at The Neighborhoods at Quail Creek Skilled Nursing Facility after a brief illness. Margaret Frances Johnson was born on October 14, 1918 in Dalton, Nebraska to Thomas and Myrtle Johnson. Frances grew up in Holden, Missouri along with her brothers James and Ralph. Frances was a strong woman of simple means. She was generous and selfless and such a good example of grace to her family and all who knew her. In her younger years she worked and made a home for and raised her daughter, Barbara Ann. Frances was employed with Heer's Department Store for 40 years first as a buyer where she enjoyed taking trips to big cities selecting merchandise for Heer's, then later working in different capacities in the store. She was a giving person and loved serving in her church, first at Grace UMC and in later years at Broadway UMC. Frances is survived by her son-in-law, Joe Tillery who has lovingly cared for her the past four years; two granddaughters, Debra Kimbrough (John) and Tracey Gill; five great grandchildren, Nicole Holt (Josh), Brandon Kimbrough (Christa), Chris, Corey and Connor Gill; one great-great grandson, Lincoln Holt; a beloved niece and nephew, Marilyn Carlson (Dan) Wolflake, Indiana and Tom Johnson (Marie ) Spencer, Iowa; three step-grandsons, Bill Snelson, Webster, Florida Ron Snelson, Washington, Missouri and Keith Snelson Bowling Green, Kentucky.Frances is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, James Rex Allen in 1965; her husband, William Francis Snelson in 2001; her brothers James and Ralph; and her daughter, Barbara Ann Tillery.Arrangements are by Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held on Monday, June 5, 2017 at 1:00 pm at Springfield National Cemetery.The family would like to express our heartfelt thanks to the staff at The Neighborhoods at Quail Creek Skilled Nursing Facility for their compassionate care and concern for our beloved Frances.
