Ernest "Ernie" J. George, age 91, of Chardon, Ohio passed away Wednesday, November 23, 2016 at Heather Hill Care Community. He was born on September 11, 1925, in Cleveland, the son of Martha (Foster) and Joseph George. Ernest and his wife Dolores (Casterline) George were long-time Madison residents. Ernest served in the Merchant Marines during WWII. He was honored to be granted his High School Diploma from Madison High School in 2006, walking on the stage with his grandson, Thomas. He was a Heating and AC Technician for several local companies, including Midway. He enjoyed playing cards with his wife and friends. He was a lover of animals, birds, and especially enjoyed decorating for Christmas. Ernest was also an avid Cleveland sports fan. Ernest is survived by his sons, Gary (Rosemarie) George, Chris (Charlene) George, Doug George, Neil George; sisters, Dee Melrose, Jan Nawalaniec; grandchildren, Joe (Avis Poai) Ernst, Joshua (Kaylee) Perkins, Thomas and Joey George; great-grandson, Iokepa Ernst-Poai; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dolores George; daughter, Gail Ernst; son, Dave George; brother, Phillip George; and his parents. Private family services are being observed.
