With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Eric Bates Sr, a beloved member of the Oakland community. Eric touched the lives of many with his infectious laughter and kind spirit. He was a dedicated friend and mentor, always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need. Eric's passion for life and unwavering optimism inspired all who knew him. His legacy of compassion and generosity will forever be remembered by those whose lives he enriched. Eric's presence will be deeply missed, but his memory will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Rick is survived by his mother Latona Gatewood stepfather Clarence Gatewood. Mother-in-law Luwana Craig, father-in-law Ronald Green, his Children Eric Bates II, Audrie Bates, Juwan Thurman, Malachi Jones, Lateha Jones, Cameron Bates, Shawanna Blakemore Brother Lateef Burks. Aunts Ilexus Green, Suzanne Sanchez, Uncle's Peter and Martin Levi.

Grandchildren: Cirree Bates, Sy'ale Blakemore Cousin Damon Branum. And A Host Of Other Relatives And Friends.

Rick departed this life on December 5th 2024 Greeting him at the Gates of Heaven his wife Shakia Bates, Father Percy Bates, Grandmother Lucille Green, Grandfather Kurt Levi, Brothers Dennis Lyons, Maurice Williams, Josiah Price.
