Elwood "Ike" Maurice IsleyAge: 73 • Burlington, VTElwood "Ike" Maurice Isley of Burlington, Vermont died on June 8, 2017.Ike was born on a 400-acre farm outside of Oakes, North Dakota on June 23, 1943. He attended a one-room school through eighth grade and graduated from Oakes High School. He played baseball and bass in a rock band, once playing back-up for Bobby Vee in the early 1960s.Ike graduated from Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota, and went on to receive a graduate certification at the Mayo Clinic School of Physical Therapy. In 1970, he moved to Burlington to work as an athletic trainer and physical therapist at the University of Vermont, where he remained for over 30 years. He was a member of the National Athletic Trainers' Association for over 25 years and co-founded the Vermont Association of Athletic Trainers.Ike was an active member of the Burlington community, serving on the Police Commission and the Burlington School Board for many years. He was a long-standing member of the Community Lutheran Church of South Burlington, where he sang in the choir and the "Hearts for Him" praise group.Ike was predeceased by his parents, Mabel and Maurice Isley, and his brother-in-law, Don Jorgenson. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Ann Ryan Isley; his sister, Karen Jorgenson of Valley City, North Dakota; his daughters, Trena Marie Isley and Kate Ryan Isley; and his two granddaughters, Thera Margaret Neilson and Oona Mae Isley-Vaughn.Services will be held on Saturday, June 17 at 11:00 at the Community Lutheran Church, 1560 Williston Road, South Burlington.
