Ellen Hickok-Wall Obituary

Jun 04, 1946 - Dec 28, 2016

This obituary is administered by:
Hickok-Wall, EllenEllen Hickok-Wall died peacefully on December 28, 2016 at her daughter's home in Miami, Florida following a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. She was born on June 4, 1946, in Shawano, WI, to the late Donald Hickok and Mildred Doan Hickok Maes. Ellen is survived by her husband of 28 years, Roy Wall, Sebring, Florida; three children, Chris (Ali) Denil, Green Bay, WI; Nicole Denil, Miami, FL; Matthew Gonzales, Miami, FL; two step-daughters, Carrie (Chris) Davis, Vega, TX; Sarah (Rick) Luna, Amarillo, TX; five grandchildren, Sebastian, Diego, Isabel, David and Savanna. Ellen is further survived by her brother, Ralph (Diane) Hickok, New Bedford, MA, and her sister Beth Weier, De Pere, WI. Ellen was a 1964 graduate of Green Bay East High School. Just two years ago she had the opportunity to help plan and attend her 50th high school reunion. She loved every moment of time spent with friends and classmates. Ellen's career life was eclectic, as was she. She worked most often at newspapers, beginning just after high school with the Green Bay Press Gazette. Her editing skills were exemplary and she was passionate about seeing the written word error-free in editorial copy or advertising. In the early 1970s, she moved to California and worked at Sunkist. She moved on to Wisconsin Rapids, and then Milwaukee, working for newspapers, both as an editor and as a reporter. After her marriage to Roy, she was able to pursue her lifelong love of antiques, at one time owning her own antique shop in Ruidoso, NM. She and Roy lived in Milwaukee, Ruidoso, Texico, Shawano, and Green Bay and they just recently made their permanent home in Sebring, FL. Ellen had a lifelong love of (and talent for) decorating and found immense joy in creating a beautiful home everywhere she went. Ellen was a passionate animal lover. She and Roy usually had at least one cat and one dog and they enjoyed many hours together watching (and laughing) at the antics of their beloved pets. Ellen's death is a difficult loss for all who knew her. She was kind. She was non-judgmental. She was funny. She was thoughtful and sensitive - she always took the time to listen to others (friends, family and strangers alike) or to travel, often hundreds of miles across the country, to help a family member or friend through a crisis or to celebrate an event. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. "How lucky were we to have someone that makes saying goodbye so hard."A memorial celebration of Ellen's life will be held in Wisconsin this spring/summer. Further information to follow.
